EVFD has been a proud part of Edinboro since 1936, providing fire protection, rescue, emergency medical services (EMS), fire police, and dive rescue services to our neighbors and visitors to our community.   All of this would not be possible without the men and women of the community who volunteer their time to serve with the Edinboro Volunteer Fire Department.

In order to successfully complete the application process, individuals are required to submit a completed application, participate in an interview with the Membership Committee, undergo Pennsylvania Act 34 Criminal History Clearance, submit a physical examination form indicating that the individual is capable of performing the work associated with the duties to be performed, receive a favorable recommendation from the Membership Committee and complete a probationary period of six to twenty-four months.

We have four initial classifications of membership that are Active, Allied, Support Service and Junior.  Active members hold their primary membership with EVFD in providing emergency services and support for the business operations of the Department.  Allied members hold a primary membership with another Fire or EMS Department, and who are frequently in the community to assist with emergency response, primarily due to work or education.  Support Service members have no requirements for emergency response and provide invaluable support to the Department.  Junior membership is available to youth ages 14-18, and follow Department guidelines and Child Labor Laws.

Active members provide direct service to the community through emergency response and may identify EMS,  Fire/rescue, or Fire Police as their primary affiliation within the Department.  Many of our members are cross-trained, having the qualifications to serve in many roles.  In addition, Support Services members provide vital administrative support that include but are not limited to participation in fund drive and fund raising, business office administration, community relations activities, and assistance with the building and grounds.

During the probationary period, members are expected to complete the training, attendance, and fundraising activities required for consideration for Active, Allied, or Support Services membership in the Department.  Specific training requirements for each divisional affiliation is reviewed and approved annually by the members of the Department.
