By Firefighter/EMT Daryl Parker
October 16, 2023

Like many others in emergency services, Jim grew up as part of the family. Jim joined his father and brother in their commitment to emergency services. Jim has been a member of the Department since 2003, and prior to that, served with the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Department. Jim holds certifications in almost every aspect of emergency services including but not limited to: firefighting, emergency medical services, vehicle and technical rescue, water rescue, officer development and tactics, wildland firefighting, and fire investigation. Jim holds an Associates Degree in Fire Protection Technology from the University of Akron, and a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

Like many of our members, Jim came to Edinboro to pursue a college degree, and made our wonderful community his home. Jim resides in the Borough of Edinboro with his wife Racheal, his daughter Allie, and son AJ. Jim works for PennWest University as the Director of Safety and Risk Management. Besides his passion for emergency services, Jim enjoys hunting and boating, and almost anything else, as long as it is with his family.

Jim's passion to serve the community comes from his parents. Jim’s parents instilled service as a core value in he and his brother growing up, giving them the ability, opportunity, and duty to serve their fellow neighbors.

Jim’s favorite EVFD memory is the people. “Whether it's the children at a fire prevention detail, the public that provides food for us during large complex incidents, the individuals that we rescued or treated, or the members of the department, these people remind us that there is still good in this world, even when people are having their worst days.”
